Social Action As Unitarian Universalists, one may find great diversity in our personal definitions of faith, but we all share a belief in the seven principles. Those principles speak to us on such matters as the inherent worth of all humankind; of working towards achieving peace and justice in our global community; and living in a way that respects the world that supports us all.
The Social Action group of our Fellowship enables members to take part in activities that support the goals of our Seven Principles. Each year we focus our efforts on one major issue, but we strive to provide a range of service opportunities to suit any interest or personal goal. Some of these include:
- Volunteer work with the American Red Cross Shelter
- Environmental clean-up and education work at the Silver Lake Nature Center (every first Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
- Seasonal food collection for the Bristol Food Bank
- Preparing and packaging to-go meals for the needy at the First Presbyterian Church of Morrisville's Food Bank
We also endeavor to provide access to learning opportunities, so that we can find out more about important issues that affect us all. If these events spur us to take additional individual or group action, all the better!
If you would like to contact the Social Action group with questions, comments, or an event of interest, please send an e-mail to Bernie Griga, our Outreach Team Leader and current Board Vice-President, at vicepres@uuflb.org.
